Method Acting:Scene Three

“Did you say you have water?” Jake asked as he pulled his pants on.

“Sure, in the fridge,” Heath said from the floor.

Jake grabbed a bottle of water and sat on the couch. Heath’s cigarette glowed in the dark as he took one last puff before crushing it out.

“Come here,” Heath invited.

“More comfy up here.”

“True.”

Heath crawled up on the couch. Putting an arm around Jake, he leaned back with a sigh.

“That was a ripper, mate,” Heath said. “I had a feeling it would be good, but I didn’t know it would be that good.”

“M-hm.” Jake made a noise of agreement as he drank his water.

“It was good for you, wasn’t it?”

Jake set the empty bottle down on the low table. “Yeah, it was good.”

“Do you want me to hold you?”

“Do you want to hold me?”

“Yeah.”

Heath slid down until he was lying with his head on the arm of the couch and pulled Jake with him. Jake settled on his side and put his head on Heath’s shoulder.

“This is nice,” Heath said.

“We need to get some sleep soon though. A forty-five day shooting schedule doesn’t leave a lot of time to fix mistakes. We need to stay sharp.”

“I’ll be sharp,” Heath said confidently.

There were a few minutes of silence, broken by Jake. “So I was really good huh?”

Heath smiled into the dark. “The sex was great,” he said. “Off the dial.”

“It wasn’t like I thought. Well, it was, but it wasn’t. You really don’t know what you can or can’t do until you give it a try.”

“If I didn’t say thank you,” Heath began.

“Don’t. I did it for my own reasons, and I got as much out of it as you did.”

“Impossible.”

Jake smiled to himself. “I really should go home and go to bed,” he said.

“Stay.”

“Yeah. That’s exactly the kind of gossip I want. It just takes one person seeing me leave your trailer first thing in the morning.”

Heath shrugged. “So we had too many beers, and you passed out on the lounge. Stay.”

“I don’t want to put you out.”

“It’s no trouble. Stay.”

“I don’t want to.”

“Ah.”

Heath sat up, letting go of Jake. Jake found his shirt and concentrated on the buttons. Heath moved to the edge of the couch and watched Jake.

“Look, I’m sorry,” Jake said, his eyes on his shirt front. “I need to sleep in my bed by myself. It’s part of my preparation, okay?”

“Whatever,” Heath reached for his cigarettes. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Absolutely. Hey, I had a great time tonight.”

“Yeah, me too,” Heath stood, putting the pack back down. “Can I get a hug?”

Jake opened his arms and Heath stepped over the coffee table to embrace him fiercely. Jake returned the hug, but avoided Heath’s mouth.

“No good night kiss?”

Jake shook his head. “I just don’t feel it,” he said.

“Wait a second.” Heath took hold of Jake’s upper arm. “Everything’s okay, right?”

“Everything’s fine.”

Heath searched Jake’s guileless gaze. “Sure?”

“I just don’t feel like kissing you right now.”

“Sorry. I don’t know what that was about. You just seemed at little … distant, I guess. Good night then.”

Jake said good night over his shoulder as he left the motor home. He went straight to his trailer and took a shower. There was a dull ache in his lower half, but it wasn’t bad enough to make him look for his bottle of ibuprofen. After brushing his teeth, he climbed into bed.

The urge to call big sister Maggie came over him and he rode it out. He’d tell her all about what he’d done tonight, but not right now. Right now, he needed sleep.

I let a guy put his dick in me, Jake thought as he drifted off. What hell was I thinking? Am I really doing this for the role? Pushing the nagging thoughts away, Jake fell asleep.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::

“It really is beautiful up here,” Heath said, looking out over the gorge.

“Alberta stands in for Wyoming,” Jake smiled.

“Beautiful,” Heath said. “Come here.”

“Come where?”

“Just over here a bit. I want to see you alone.”

“Why?”

“I think you know why.”

“Forget it,” Jake said. “We’re working.”

“We’ll still be working according to your rationale. Come on.”

Jake bit his lip. “Just for a minute. They’ll have those lights rigged pretty quick.”

Heath pulled Jake behind a free-standing boulder. “This won’t take long,” he said, pressing Jake’s hand to the swell in his jeans.

Jake snatched his hand back. “Shit! What the hell are you doing? Anybody could walk around here and see us.”

“And we’ll tell them we’re rehearsing, right? Come on.”

“No. It’s crazy.”

“Are you saying that because you’re scared, or because you don’t want to fool around?”

Jake pushed Heath’s hand away, but the heat lingered. “I just don’t think it’s a good idea.”

“I thought it was good for the film.”

“We’re not shooting a love scene today.”

“I thought you wanted to stay sharp,” Heath said. “Do you ever skip a day of exercise?”

“No,” Jake admitted.

Jake wished the phantom sensation of Heath’s fingers on his skin would go away, but his flesh was warm and tingled pleasantly. More than anything, Jake wanted Heath to pull him closer and … Jake was a little fuzzy on exactly what he wanted after that.

“This is just another exercise,” Heath said in his melted chocolate baritone. “Come on, Jakey; I need your help.

“Yeesh, I hope that’s not how I sound when I’m desperate to get into some girl’s pants.”

“You’re not a girl,” Heath said. “I’ve got that through my head. But God help me, I am desperate. I need to feel you close to me.”

“This is still just sex, right?”

“I can’t help it if I feel something for you,” Heath answered as candidly as ever.

“Shit,” Jake turned his back and started to walk away.

Heath grabbed Jake’s elbow and spun him back around. “Hang on, mate. You don’t have to love me back. And I’m not saying I love you. I just … feel something, okay?”

“No, it’s not okay, not really. I don’t need this.”

“Look. We’re in the back of beyond here and I’m lonelier than I’ve ever been in my life. I don’t have my family or my mates and my girlfriend set me adrift. It’s only natural I’d develop some feelings for the person closest to me.”

“That’s no excuse. I don’t have my family or friends and Kirsten …” Jake’s words got stuck in his suddenly constricted throat.

Heath reached for Jake and was rebuffed.

“Don’t. I don’t need sympathy. I can handle it myself.”

“But why? If you don’t have to?”

Jake shook his head, blinking back tears.

“I’m fine.”

“No, you’re not. At least now, I have an idea why you’d do something as bizarre as having sex with me. You’re not thinking straight.”

Jake laughed unexpectedly and it came out sounding like a sob. Braving another rejection, Heath wrapped his arms around his co-star and drew him back into the shadow of the boulder. Jake was stiff in Heath’s arms, but he didn’t struggle.

“Not thinking straight?” Jake managed to say.

“I wasn’t trying to make a pun.”

“I know. If it’d been intentional, it wouldn’t have been that clever.”

“You’re a real ratbag; you know that?”

“Yeah, I’ve been told, but usually people tell me they love me anyway.”

“But you don’t want me to tell you that.”

Jake sighed and let Heath cuddle him. “Shit. I don’t want this, but I need it. And I don’t want to need it. I want to cope on my own.”

“No worries. I won’t tell anyone what a wimp you are. Why don’t you have a look ‘round and see if the lights are ready?”

Jake shook his head. “Looks like they’ve got a ways to go. Some more trucks just drove up. Guess we’ve got time.”

“Don’t tease me, mate. I’m dying for a root.”

Jake’s features tightened in a frown. “You want me that bad? Or would you be saying that to whoever your co-star was?”

“Wouldn’t have said it to Mel Gibson, or maybe I would’ve. He’s got a sense of humor. Jake, wait! I’m having you on. I want you. Or maybe I want Jack, but what’s the difference?”

“I’d rather it was Jack you wanted to fuck,” Jake said. “But, swear to God, being this close to you makes me hard.”

Heath tested the veracity of Jake’s statement with a quick squeeze. Tugging on Jake’s belt loop, Heath urged him toward the shelter of a group of large rocks.

“Come on,” Heath said in Jake’s ear. “Tell me the idea of doing it within earshot of the crew isn’t a major turn-on.”

Jake’s eyes widened as a chill wave of adrenalin washed through his system. His heart skipped a beat and then resumed at a quicker pace. Damn it! Heath was right.

“Okay,” Jake said softly. “Let’s go.”

:::::::::::::::::::::::::

Heath pushed into Jake one last time with a groan of release. His arms were wrapped tightly around Jake’s waist as though he feared the other man might escape and he’d sunk his teeth into Jake’s shoulder nearly hard enough to draw blood. He could taste the salt of Jake’s sweat and feel the sun burning his scalp and bare butt.

Every scent, sight, sound, taste, touch, was so vivid that Heath knew he’d never forget this moment. Each detail was etched into his memory and what he felt was recorded somewhere even deeper in his limbic system. The raw mammalian drive to mate was underlaid by an even more primal desire, an atavistic instinct out of place in modern society.

“Fuck me,” Heath breathed, pulling out of Jake. “So that’s what God looks like.”

“That was …” Jake had to stop and catch his breath. “That was like … I don’t know. How can something hurt so much and feel so incredibly good?”

Heath awkwardly yanked his jeans up as he lay on his back. “That defines Ennis and Jack’s love, though, I would’ve said, how can something that feels so good hurt so much.”

“We just had absurdly good sex and you want to argue semantics?”

“I’m not sure that’s semantics, but no, I don’t want to argue. I just want you to finish buttoning up and let me hold you until we have to go back to work.”

Jake grimaced, but he was smiling when he turned on his knees to face Heath. “We should see what the hold up is. If it’s something major, we might have the rest of the day off.”

Heath’s gaze traveled the length of his co-star’s long lean body until their eyes met. “I’d kill to shag you properly in a big hotel bed.”

“Really? I was thinking we’d gotten about all we can out of rehearsing this.”

“Then let’s do it because it feels so fucking good.”

“I imagine we will,” Jake said. “Come on. I want to see what’s going on.”

Jake offered Heath a hand, pulling the Australian to his feet. Heath turned the hoist into a hug, giving Jake’s ass a discreet two-handed squeeze.

“I could do you again right now,” Heath growled.

“No you couldn’t. Break’s over, cowboy.”

“Jake,” Heath called the other man back.

“What?” Jake stopped, but didn’t turn.

“It’s really okay if you don’t love me back. I’m not ready for another relationship right now and neither are you. I won’t get all soggy on you; I promise. I’ll keep the mush to myself. Just please don’t decide to cut me out without talking to me, okay?”

Jake’s shoulders stiffened as though Heath had hit him with a rock. “You know this … research has a finite life, right? We talked about this up front. Either of us can call a halt whenever we want.”

“I know; I just hope you’ll talk to me before making a choice.”

“I’m not going to disappear without a forwarding address.”

“It happens.”

“Jake! Heath!” The A.D. appeared over the rise.

“Told you,” Jake said stepping away from Heath. “Now they’ve sent someone after us.”

“Let’s go, boys,” the assistant director said. “The day you’ve been waiting for is finally here. The ladies have arrived.”

“We’re coming,” Jake called, pulling his hand from Heath’s.

The A.D. did an immediate about face and scurried back to the twenty seven thousand other tasks an assistant director is responsible for. Heath caught hold of Jake’s wrist and held him back. Jake half-turned, a not altogether welcoming expression on his face.

“Just don’t get scared,” Heath said.

Jake looked at his co-star blankly for a moment before replying. “I won’t do anything to jeopardize this production,” he said. “Let’s go; they’re waiting for us.”

Heath released Jake’s wrist and followed him back to the *staging area *. Heath sensed a change and wished for the power to stop it, but knew it wouldn’t be granted. What would be would be, but he couldn’t deal with it until it happened.

Ten minutes later, he and Jake were meeting their *wives *.

I love the fact that Heath is falling for Jake, but Jake is holidng back, even if he and Kirsten are having problems (or hit splitsville?). Watching them realize that this is more than 'preparation for the role' is interesting.

I thought it might be over after the third chappie. Yea for more! I was so excited when I saw this chapter. But I feel bad for poor Heath and Jake. I hope they work it out together.

Oh great! I think Jake has more feelings inside than he's willing to admit! I love how cocking and sure Heath is. On no the "wives" have arrived ;-) Can't wait.

- Heath said in his melted chocolate baritone-
Would anybody in his right mind be able to resist this?

-The raw mammalian drive to mate was underlaid by an even more primal desire, an atavistic instinct out of place in modern society-
Wow oh wow oh wow, that's just plain beautiful!

Heath... he's insatiable, just can't get enough of Jake.

Thanks

Who could resist Jake? Or ever get enough? ;D

I'm so glad you decided to read this story. I'm reading bits of it when I read your comments, and it's taking me back to the time when Brokeback the film premiered and how excited everyone was as we discovered it together.

My first introduction to Brokeback Mountain goes back to 12/25/2006.
That explains why I’m apparently always late to the party! :)
